I want you to feel safe when you use this website, and I am committed to maintaining the safety and security of any personal information that you chose to share.

Let’s get the important stuff out of the way first: I don’t sell your data. I wouldn’t know how to! And I won’t do anything with your data that I wouldn’t want you doing with mine. I find that’s a good principle to follow in life.

If you:

  • Book me for a course or event
  • Leave me your contact details and ask that I contact you
  • Ask to be added to my mailing list

…then I will only use your information to allow me to do what you’ve asked me to do. The sole exception to that rule are emails, which I keep for purposes of legal archive and because it’s rude not to remember that you’ve spoken with people previously.

Who I am

My website address is: https://stevedeeley.com.

Comments

If you leave comments on the site I collect the data shown in the comments form, and also your IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service Privacy Policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment. All this helps to stop the website being deluged with fake, and often deeply offensive comment

We sometimes use other services to help run and manage the website

Media

Please don’t upload photos or videos to the website. These can contain hidden data (EXIF DATA – look it up) that reveal information about your location and activities. If you do upload any such content, it’s at your own risk, I’m afraid.

Security

This site uses a CCL certificate to ensure you that you are dealing with me.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on my site, you may opt in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit my login page, my website will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, my website will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if you have visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website. I can’t accept responsibility for any use you make of content provided by third party websites.

If you feel you’ve found some inappropriate content, pelase tell me immediately and I will check it and if necessary remove it.

Who I share your data with

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

How long I retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

If you send me an email, I retain those emails indefinitely for purposes of legal archive and because it’s rude not to remember that you’ve spoken with people previously.

What rights you have over your data

If you’re worried about your personal data on this site, please contact me at steve@stevedeeley.com . You also have some legal rights:

  • You can ask to access to the information I hold on you
  • You can ask to change information you think is inaccurate
  • You can ask to delete any of your information that I may have (right to be forgotten)
