Common Lizards are easily found and sadly enjoy no protection in law. Unlike many lizards, they give birth to live young.

The Sand Lizard is Britain's rarest reptile and heavily protected by law. It prefers sandy heathland, although bother here and in Europe it also likes building rubble! All photos of sand lizards here were taken using long lenses in full accordance with the law, and the animals were not disturbed in any way. The images of mating sand lizard were taken through vegetation from a considerable distance, supervised by a schedule 1 licence holder.
