All Images shot in the wild.

Squirrels, the familiar "furry rats" that hop around our parks, are easily overlooked, but that's to misunderstand a fascinating animal. Treetop chases, fights in which they spiral around the trunk of a tree, the careful building of dreys in inaccessible places, Squirrels aren't just nut-eaters but also raid bird's nests - I've seen the result of a woodpecker's nest raided by squirrels.

Britain's red squirrel is immensely popular and incredibly rare. Elusive, smaller than the grey with characteristic "tufts" over the ears, they are mostly found in Scotland these days - but these images were show on Brownsea Island in Dorset, which still has a thriving population. I thoroughly recommend a visit, where you are likely to catch a glimpse of these delightful creatures.
