Once persecuted to the point of extinction in England and Wales, the Pine Marten is slowly making a comeback, with a confirmed sighting in Shropshire. About the size of a cat, they are nocturnal, elusive, fearsome and utterly fearless predators. It has recently been discovered that they predate grey squirrels more than reds, and thus may be the key to bringing the beautiful red squirrel back to our woodlands.
