All Images shot in the wild except where otherwise noted

Britain has two native deer - the magnificent Red and the smaller, long-necked Roe (who always strike me as wannabe giraffes). There are four other species introduced into this country - the Muntjac, Sika, Chinese Water Deer, and (surprisingly) the Fallow Deer, which has lived here for so long and seems so at home that I always thought it was native - but it was actually brought here by the Normans.

Deer are easily found, often in country house estates, and there are many wild herds roaming the country. There is evdeince that harrassment from photographers is affecting many herds of deer, especially in the Royal parks. For that reason, I photograph deer only in the wild these days, using a long lens, although some shots of Fallow deer on the site were taken in a park. If you are a fellow photographer I urge you to stay at least forty feet from the deer at all times.
